ABOUT US

The staff and congregation of St. James United Methodist Church would like to welcome you to our web-site, and to Florence, Alabama. The purpose of this web-site is to serve as a standing invitation for you to visit our church. Whether you are a lifelong resident to this area, or have just moved in, you will not find a warmer, friendlier church home. We invite you to grow with us and "See His Glory". If you are a church member, (past or present), and cannot be with us because of college, work, or you have moved, hopefully, this page will keep you updated and serve as your church home away from home.

St. James is a great church with much to offer. We have wonderful programs for children, youth, and adults. This is a place where all of us can gather to worship God and grow in our faith. Let us always strive to be in unity with God and with one another as we seek to do the Lord's will. Once again, WELCOME, and thanks for stopping by.

St. James UMC History

St. James United Methodist Church in Florence has a long history of growth dating from the 1800's, which has brought us again and again to major decisions. Each time we reached a crossroad, our congregation stepped forward in faith with new ministries and missions for our church. For example:

1978 St. James and Monumental Park merged into one congregation
1989 St. James relocated to our present site on Cox Creek Parkway

After this move, we began to grow immediately. We started a second worship service and continued to grow. We broke ground for a new sanctuary on May 17, 1998 and had our first worship service in it on May 23, 1999. On our Consecration Sunday, August 29, 1999 we had 500 in attendance.

We have two worship services 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
We follow our Mission Statement and our Vision Statement adopted several years ago. We have been blessed with a large group of good leaders who have a vision and are willing to dream and take risks for the Kingdom of God.

A missionary of many years ago said, "Attempt great things for God, expect great things from God." That's exactly what we're doing at St. James. We believe God has amazing things in store for this church and we are excited about the future.

We invite you to come and worship with us!
